From Salt Lake to the battlefront in France in less titan two months was the schedule on which A. F. Smoot traveled, following his enlistment In the tank corps August 5 of this year,according to word just received by his wife, who resides at 204S Eleventh East street. He is the son of A. C. Allen, 25 years of age, son of Mrs. Fablna Allen of American Fork, has arrived safely overseas. Young Allen enlisted en-listed December 15, 1917, and trained at tlie Presidio, San Francisco. Son of Mrs. Mary Kane of 149 South Eighth East street, and a brother of Richard A. Kane, who is in France as secretary for the Knights of Columbus. Formerly employed in office of county clerk of Salt Lake county. Born at Sidney, Sid-ney, Neb.; 27 years of age; educated in the Salt Lake schools and at All Hallows college. Formerly a student of the University of Utah, Archibald Freebairn, Jr., has graduated from the ground school in Berkeley, Cal., and is now starting upon a course in flying at the Sacramento aviation school. Livingston is the first Midvale boy to receive a commission commis-sion in the army. He enlisted in the machine ma-chine gun corps organized at Fort Douglas Doug-las shortly after declaration of war was made and in which he was made sergeant. ser-geant. Later he was selected from several sev-eral hundred men in training to attend an officers' training camp. Murano of Bingham, has heen "over there," according to word received recently by his parents. Upon enlisting in Salt I,ake he was sent to the naval training station at San Francisco, where he remained until assigned to one of the ships of the navy. SPERRY. Alexander H. Davidson of Mohrland is with the Twenty-eighth engineers, and at recent report was at Camp Meade, Maryland. Mary-land. He enlisted August 19. He was employed by the United States Fuel company com-pany for three years before enlisting. He entered the army through the Salt Lake recruiting office and was sent to Fort Douglas and later to Camp Meade. Pon of T. 13. HAROLD PINNEY. fi'.: j Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Sperry, Jr., of 13S3 South Third East street, recently received a telegram from their son, Sidney Sid-ney B. Sperry, stating that he had been commissioned a second lieutenant in the field artiliery. Lieutenant Sperry, who is 22 years old, is a graduate of the University of Utah. Upon entering the service he was assigned as-signed to Camp Lewis, but later was transferred to the sipnal corps and sent to Camp Fremont. From there he was sent to the officers' tiaining school at Camp Zachary Taylor Ky,, where he was given his commission October 9. With three sons lighting "over there" and with a son-in-law in training "over here," Mr. and Mrs. James Day of Fillmore, Fill-more, Utah, are counting on the American Amer-ican forces to defeat the central powers. Willard Day, youngest of the three brothers, enlisted in the signal corps of tlie army and has been in France for several sev-eral months in active service. Jesse E.
