Show 8. A. 0; TO HOLD MIL MEETING Will Be Most Momentous in History of Athletic Organization. NEW YORK, Oct. 26. The annual meeting of tho Amateur Athletic union, to be held in Philadelphia on November 17 and IS, promises to be one of the most momentous in the history of the organization. organiza-tion. Questions having to do with the readjustment of track and field athletics after the war and problems arising from the present conflict will be laid before the delegates for their consideration and decision. Their verdict will have far-reaching far-reaching effects, and the various officers and other representatives of the union are collecting data in order to be prepared to meet these issues squarely and fairly. Among the subjects that are to be 1 considered are resolutions barring from ail national championship games athletes of foreign affiliations, and the status or an athlete after the war who during the hostilities occupied a position as coach, instructor or physical director at a cantonment can-tonment or with the service units abroad. Tho question .of allotting the various championship meets at this meeting instead in-stead of later in the season will also come up for decision. Of these, the most important is undoubtedly un-doubtedly the one bearing on the ama-; ama-; te-nr status of the athlete who during the war has accepted pay for acting in til capacity of instructor or recreation director at a service camp. Under normal nor-mal conditions such action would immediately imme-diately disqualify and professionalize such athlete. In the present circumstances, however, such action bears an entirely different aspect, tho work in many cases being carried on for patriotic reasons and at a heavy financial loss, as well as at the expense of broken home ties. As a result, it is confidently expected that the following resolution, introduced to I cover this contingency, will be quickly I adopted: It- "That In accepting such positions many r- have done so at a great sacrifice, leaving I their homes, families, business, positions, If etc., to go far from home or over the seas, feeling that in this way they could ! be useful In helping to win the war. "Be it, therefore, resolver, that no j person who shall have been eligible to compete as an amateur at the beginning I of the war shall be considered as having I forfeited his amateur status by accepting I a position such as mentioned above, unless un-less he shall continue in said employment j after the war is over." The matter of awarding the various I championship events In the branches of ; Fport under the Jurisdiction of the A. A. TJ. at this meeting Is more or less of an ! Innovation and the success of the plan ; will depend upon the number of applications applica-tions received from the different associations associa-tions and individual clubs. Some thfrty-nine thfrty-nine championship competitions are scheduled sched-uled for award and it is hoped that a majority of these can be placed at this meeting. It Is not likely that specific dates will be fixed for the contests, but a seasonal range will be fixed In each rase and the club securing the event will be permitted to name the day or days upon which it would be convenient to hold the competition within the range stated.
