Show Difficult Meshing. When difficulty develops in meshing gears it is poor policy to try to jam them into mesh. Instead, the clutch pedal should be held out for a few minutes while the car is allowed to slow down almost to a stop, when the clutch should be applied quickly and then released at once. In this way the shifting member that has given trouble will probably have turned so that it will engage without difficulty. The reason is that frequently one or two of the gear teeth have become burred on trie edges so that they do not slip into engagement easily, whereas the other teeth are undamaged and slip Into 'mesh without the slightest difficulty. |
