WITH THE AMERICAN ARMT, Oct. 26. 9 p. m. In the battle north d'f Verdun Ver-dun the First American army has inflicted in-flicted on the Germans total casualties in excess of 70,000, including more than 20,000 unwounded prisoners. Today has been quiet in comparison to the fighting of the past week. East of the Meuse, where the bitterest struggle strug-gle took place, the Germans appeared to bo resting after costly ccunter-attacks yesterday, while we spent the day In consolidating con-solidating our positions. West of the Mewse there has been frequent fre-quent patrol encounters and in small local actions we bettered our positions north of Grand Pre, but no important actions took place. The weather is becoming colder. |
