Show REPUBLICS BIG I TO LIVESTOCK II An Important transportation change ie taking place in Omaha and in Nebraska that marks an epoch in the commercial life of the state, according to word received re-ceived by the Randall-Republic company, local dealers in Republic trucks. The change first became apparent at the South Omaha stockyards, then it found its way into the wholesale districts, and now its benefits are reaching to the very door of the rural merchant. The motor truck is the basis of the change, and it promises prom-ises a revolution in local haulage ot freight. It has been only a few months since the motor trucks that hauled cattle, hogs and sheep to the South Omaha stockyards stock-yards could be counted on the fingers. Nov it Is an adding machine process. Republic trucks are, apparently, in particular par-ticular favor for this sort of work. An actual count during the early morning rush hours shows that more than 50 per cent of all the motor trucks in use within with-in a radius of 100 miles of the South Omaha yards are Republics. The gradual growth of stock hauling by truck has produced many .interesting changes in the stock business. Farmers who used to pay but little attention to stock-raising now come to the stockyards and buy cattle or hogs for fattening. They haul them home in motor trucks, turn them out on the farm, fatten them and return them to the market. The truck hauling scheme enables them to get their stock to market in a few hours, the quick hauling enabling them to get practically prac-tically the same weights as at home. Keeping stock crowded in cars for days decreases the weight and causes a costly reduction. And it has been proved that a 300-pound hog will weigh only 20S pounds after being hauled for twelve miles in a farm wagon. The length ot time consumed on the road and the rough-riding qualities of a farm wagon cause this shrinkage. Most farmers hauling livestock pick up their loads during the night, nave tnem in South Omaha for the 6 o'clock opening open-ing of the market, and they are usually back home by noon. The majority of the Republic trucks used in this work are the one and one-half and the two-ton models. The Randall-Republic company announces an-nounces that it is prepared to make immediate im-mediate delivery on practically all models of Republic trucks. |
