Show ! BIG m PRESSURE UPSETS THEORIES Union Oil & Gas Company Encounters Unexpected Results. SHOWING IS PLEASING i ; . j Indications Are That Oil Will Be Found Ahead of Guffey & Galey Log. i The intensive drilling now in process at well Xo. 1 of the Union Oil & Gas j company, just west of Farniington, has j developed rot-ults during the past week j which were somewhat of a surprise to the company's management, in that a prf-at pas pressure has been found at a more shallow depth than was first an-; an-; ii.-ipatcd. Yesterday a third as strata eni'ounterod of o yreat a volume that sand, dirt and water were thrown tour feet from the level of the der rick. It was explained by the management that the company has depended largely ' for knowledge of the strata to be found '. on the official lo; of the Guffey and i Galey well, the deepest well ever sunk ' in the district, and but 'J')0 feet away from the Union well. This log showed that ,c;as was encountered by the Guffey and Galey people in quantity at 170 feet, 40n feet and in great quantity at , 300 feet, while at 1500 feet the pres- sure was approximately 20,000,000 feet 1 of gas per day. Geologists Explain. The Union well seems to be encoun- tering the same flows at from 100 to ' 200 feet less depth. The explanation of the company's geologist is that the 1 Guffey and Galey well "was sucLk just : off from the anticline, while the Union : well is on the anticline, and while the ; strata is the same, the anticline forma-! 1 tion has forced the as pressure this , much higher and besides given greatly j ' added pressure. I Should this theory bo correct,, the j management states that a pressure all j . : the way from a 1alf a million to sev- j eral million cubic feet per day may be I encountered at any timp. Drilling is j oing on with great, vigor, the present ; shift working ten hours, and as soon j as additional drillers ran be obtaiucd I a seeoud and third shift will be added, i which will make continuous drilling. i Has Pipe in Reserve. The company now ha-s on the ground : and stacked up beside the derrick, ; sufficient ten-inch and eight-iuoh pipe ! to sink to a depth of .1000 feet. It also j has pipe in reserve in Juab county for ! au additional 1000 feet. This is by far ! the most pretentious drilling ever at-; at-; tempted in the district. The. usual drill-: drill-: ing'of the old wells was by small rigs and from four to six-inch pipe. The management states that as large flows of gas are encountered they will be cased off and the company will continue con-tinue drilling to 4000 feet if necessarian necessari-an order to encounter oil. Already there are strong oil showings, oil having ben brought up in the bailer. Last Friday a party including former Mayor Richard P. Morris, Lieutenant Fred Walters. Guy R. La t'oste and several sev-eral Ogdcn and Salt Lake investors, with the officials of the Union Gas company, inspected the sinking of the big ten-ineh pipe. At that time the gas was boiling iD the pipe so that the und was audible some distance. According Ac-cording to the companv'iJ officials, ar-ra-ncements are practically completed for the erection of the absorption plant fo- the extraction of casoline from the 23 s. and work will be begun in the very near future.
