Show DEVELOPMENTS AT OLD EMMA ENCOURAGING i New Body of High Grade Lead-Silver Ore Opened Up During Week. Developments during: the week at the property of Hie Emma Consolidated Mines jl company were contained in a detailed re- Port forwarded yesterday to the New York offices of I he company and which said in pari: . Unlocking (he treasure chest is an apt way to describe the developments and work In the Old Emina mine. The Iiii ltc body of rush-grade ore f which Itnx been under exploitation in the past year ha.s been augmented by the opening up of a new body of uish-' uish-' 5? :v.ie oi o, rich in lead and silver. This new ore lies to the south of the main slope and lias been opened up by means of a raise put up from ;-i drift which goes out from" the main slope itself. midway between the second and third levels. This raise, which had advanced five feet into the ore on Ha tu relay morning, was still showing strong in the face and an average sample of the ore exposed assayed 48 ounces silver and 16 per cent lead. Ore of this character is worth ap-r ap-r : uxiniiilely S4S per ton at the smelter under the terms of the com-nany's com-nany's existing contract. This ore occurs along the same breeciated zone which lias ieen responsible for" all the big ore 'bodies that have been uponed up in the mine from the very earliest days to the present time. In the raise the indications are very favorable that a large ex tension of the Known ore body will be found. There lias heen a good deal of v. rk connected with the rearrangement rearrange-ment of I lie hoisting and sorting equipment at the top of the winze of Hie third level. This winze has icaehed a depth of approximately fifty feet and in order to cheapen tiie cost of operation as well as to in-:- ir e a larger out put, it was found dsirab'e to install a powerful double-cylinder hoist. Besides this, an increased bin capacity has been provided pro-vided underground, so as to lie able to store a considerable tonnage of broken , ore to permit sorting operations opera-tions to go on at leisure. Everything is in readiness at the mine to commence active operations on a large scale in the winze on Saturday Sat-urday night. A good job has been done, and unless unforeseen misfortune misfor-tune intervenes a regular production will be maintained fioni now on. In carrying out the work in this winze the management has two objects in view: One is to secure an ample production pro-duction in this part of the mine and the other is to advance this working work-ing with sufficient rapidity to get to a point where a station can be cut so that the pump may be installed to handle the water, an ore pocket put in and scoping operations commenced from the' bottom upward. This operation op-eration is intended to insure a maximum maxi-mum production, at the minimum cost. Owing to the numerous faults, it is desirable from an operating standpoint stand-point to carry this winze on ahead so as to pet a knowledge of what is going to take place as depth is attained. at-tained. There is no fear whatsoever regarding .the certainty that the ore body will continue to depth, but if the ground is faulted thirty or forty feet it may require a slight alteration in the general direction of the winze, and this fact should be known in time to prevent an interruption of the operations or an increase in the working cost. After a long delay the operation of the company's air-compressing plant is likely to be witnessed wit-nessed "at an early date. The electric elec-tric transmission cable, , which has been ordered for a very long time, and on which delivery was delayed owing to the priority of government orders, is reported to have been shipped from the factory on December Decem-ber 2S. and should arrive in Salt Lake in a few days. It will not take long aftei that to have it on the property, unless the condition of the roads prevents pre-vents it. - |
