Show STEEL SURVEY SHOWS SUFFICIENT FOR ALL Production Increasing Rapidly; Alloy, Chrome and Nickel Output Ample for Autos and Airplanes. Eastern interests have made a thorough thor-ough investigation of the steel situation situa-tion and announce thy can find no evidence of shortage, i i It is stated that eiiough steel for 300,000 airplanes has been released by tbe drop in demand far other Hues; that the production of al ty steel is increasing increas-ing rapidly, and th.f; ordnance is not absorbing large quantities. All of the automobile products, including in-cluding trucks, airplanes and passenger passen-ger cars, arc well cared for by half the total tonnage of alloy steel produced pro-duced in 1910". More alloy steel is wanted now and a steadily increasing quantity will bo wanted for ordnance. The statement is also made that t lie world-wide demand for tool steel is in excess of the supply, and that the tool steel output is mainly limited by a severe se-vere shortage of alloying materials. It is stated that there, is no severe shortage of nickel and chrome for structural struc-tural alloy steel, and there is ample vanadium, providing for most of the automobile industry through the medium me-dium of vanadium and nickel steels. The automobile industry can get along' with very little chrome. The ordnance plants have been found to ie not yet ready to absorb any great quantity of steel, and exports of steel arc limited by the shipping tonnage available. |
