Show IFOUiil I TO BE ENTERTAINED Plans for Theatrical and Lecture Courses Being Worked Out. Plans f ci r furnishing, at nominal cost, to the uniform men of the United States in the various tamps anil cantonments, tho highest class of entertainments, theatrical, the-atrical, musical and lecture, are now being worked out by the military entertainment enter-tainment council. This is a branch of the war department commission on training eamji activities, and the work was outlined at some length at a conference con-ference held January 3 in Denver by representative leaders in the movement. C. Schramm, who went as the'rep-resentative the'rep-resentative from Utah, was made director di-rector tif the work in the states of Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana, Mon-tana, as well 'as in I rah. Mr. Schramm will be assisted by Krank J. Rosier, a well known Chautauqua manager from Washington, who is expected to arrive here early in the week and participate in working out. the details. Salt Lake will be headquarters for work in all of this division of states.' According to the report made by Mr. Schramm, the plan comprehends the furnishing to the enlisted men alternate weeks of high-class comedy, the best light opera and the best amateur theatricals, the-atricals, with talent contributed by tho enlisted men, at a cost of not to exceed 0 cents for each admission. And it is further planned that this dime shall not usually come from the men themselves, but that coupon books will be distributed distrib-uted through proper channels.- For instance, a book of ten coupons will be told for $1, a '"Smileage Book." The purchaser may mail or send the coupons to his friends or relatives in the ranks. Each coupon will afford the recipient an evening of pleasure that would otherwise cost from $1 to $2. The actual expense is not directly borne by the government, aside from the, routine and incidentals, for the best artists of the country are enthusiastically enthusiasti-cally donating their services to aid in the movement, Maude Adams being the first -woman to offer her services, William Wil-liam Faversham the first man. While Fort Douglas hasio theater, it is believed that the various theater managers in Salt Lake will largely cooperate co-operate in donating their houses. |
