Show SAYS LIQUOR LI IS BMLniEO Wolfe Declares Intention of Enforcing Statute to Limit. "If the police force of Salt Lake City, operating under the new city commission, does not enforce rigidly the prohibition law here, J have it. in mind to ask Governor Bamberger, through the attorney general 's office,, to give me money from the contingency fund with which to enforce the law in the city. ' ' This statement was made by Assistant Assist-ant Attorney General .lames H. Wolfe yesterday. Mr. Wolfe, besides being assistant to Attorney General 1'nu B. Shields, is in direct charge of the prohibition pro-hibition office at the state capitol, and is charged directly with the enforcement enforce-ment of the prohibition law in t'tah. Mr. Wolfe says that so many complaints com-plaints have eoriie to him to the effect that it is easy to get intoxicating liquor here, and these complaints have come bearing so much evidence of fact that he has decided something must be done, either by tho city police department or bv the state authorities. '"People have challenged me to go with them to any of a number of plaves thev named, for the purpose of getting liquor. Other persons have assured me that intoxicating liquors can be purchased pur-chased at most of the 'soft drink' parlors par-lors in the citv, and that the violation of the anti-liquor law is getting more open every day. I have been doing a httlo investigating for myself, and am therefore convinced that, to say the least, the prohibition law is being violated vio-lated here." ' The prohibition law enacted bv the last, legislature provides for a contingency contin-gency fund to be used in its enforcement. enforce-ment. In case Mr. Wolfe decides td ask for money with which to conduct investigation' this would be Ihe fund that would be drawn upon. |
