Show FOR ORE SHIPMENT' Aim Will Be to Ship at Least Two Carloads a Week. .l:pr, i.il to The Tribune. KL'RKKA, Jan. ". A short time atto ii trinl i-liiiiiii.il of iron ore n as sent out from till Iron Kins property in the eastern cml of tin; 'li-.tri.-t ami a at-i.'fai-tory contract was signc! up which will permit tho shipment of several hiin.lrcl tons of this ore. The contract for hauling tho oro between the, mine ami tho railroad has boon awarder! to Kohertson brothers of Eureka, who fin-i-fhod loading their second ear on Saturday. Satur-day. It is the intention of the company to ship in the neih borhood of two cars a week, this product being in demand at the smelters for fluxing purposes. There is an almost unlimited supply of iron of an excellent grade at tho property, anil in the event that a railroad rail-road is built into that section, the ore would be. worth a tfreat deal of money to the company. Mining men who are familiar with the, property say that the ore has been cut by tho shaft for a distance of fully .'(00 feet and that drifts have been driven into the immense im-mense deposits in almost every direction, direc-tion, showing that there are hundreds of thousands of tons. The margin of profit on this class of oro is quite small, and consequently it. will not stand for expensive mining operations and a long -wagon haul; but if it were possihlo to eliminate the latter lat-ter expense there would be a chance for the Iron King people to make a splendid splen-did profit as long as the smelters were in position to take, the ore. Superintendent Nick Roberts of the Iron King is now using two shifts in tho sinking of the new working shaft, which is a part of the new campaign outlined by Manager C. E. Loose. After raising from tho tunnel level to the surface, a distance of about 300 feet, work was started on the shaft. An engine, which is good for a depth of 1000 feet, has been installed on the tunnel level, and for the present the material from the shaft is being trammed to the surface through the mine's 3000-foot tunnel. Later, a larger hoisting engine will be installed above tho raise which connects the tunnel level with the surface. |
