Show ALLEGED DESERTER ARRESTED ON COAST RAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 5. John Er-vine. Er-vine. an allesed deserter from the Forty-second Forty-second infantrv, stationed at Fort Douglas Doug-las Utah, was arrested here tonight and is held pendhv; Investigation of the murder mur-der of an unidentified man near Fort Douglas last September. The slain man had a .45-callber bullet in his head. Er-viue Er-viue is accused of having stolen a .45-caliber .45-caliber revolver when he deserted. He admitted taking the gun, according to the police, but denied knowledge of the murder. When questioned last night as to John Brvine, the alleged deserter mentioned in the report from San Francisco, and the finding of a man's body near Fort Douglas Doug-las in September with a bullet wound in the head, the police department and the sheriff's office stated that they did not work on any such case. If a man was found dead on the military reservation, the army authorities are evidently handling han-dling the matter themselves, local officers said. |
