Show UTILITIES DECISION MEETS APPROVAL Bettilyou Home Builders' President Thinks Good "Will Come of Fares Adjustment. Voicing an opinion that indicates a broad view of yalt Lake's development and advancement, V. A. Bettilyon, president presi-dent of Bettilyon Home Builders company com-pany of Salt Lake, declared Saturday j that in his opinion the public utility: commission of Utah has rendered a fair i and ecquitable decision, in the matter of the changes in fares authorized by the commission last week for the local street car company. Mr. Bettilyon declares that a street car system, with its interurban connections, connec-tions, forms one of the most important factors in the upbuilding of the business busi-ness and residential sections of any community and that the changes in rates which such a company seek to make are, of course, of vital importance impor-tance and interest to thousands of citizens. citi-zens. 'I have felt that the local street car company was entitled to some re-. lief against constantly increasing ex-penses ex-penses and I watched with a good deal , of interest the deliberations of the pub-1 lie utility commission when the street car company petitioned for privilege to increase fares on some lines and abolish the 4-cent ticket," declares Mr. Bettilyon. (I believe the commission had a mighty hard problem to solve and it seems to me they have acted very wisely. The street car company secures what is probably ample relief under the circumstances and at the same time the commission's decision does not work a hardship on any class of 'citizens. So broad and liberal a policy "is a distinct and direct benefit to everyone concerned, con-cerned, and most particularly to the public itself. Such a decision is of course of paramount interest to real estate es-tate men because proper and adequate street car service is an important element ele-ment in developing suburban tracts, residence subdivisions and in almost every other department of a realtor's business.'' |
