"You represent the best of tho Vtah regiment regi-ment ami 1 want to see every one of you tome out of the training camp with a coniniii-sion. With these words, from Colonel R. W. Young ringing in their ears, twenty-four candidates for the third officers' training camp marched off to their new quarters this morning to undergo a three months' course of instruction which will fit them for officers .of the reserve corps. There w-as only one vacancy in the candidates' ranks as they reported to regimental headquarters shortly before noon for their final orders before leaving. Corporal Creighton ("Pat") King was the absent one, due to illness which has interned him at the base hospital for two weeks. It nas thought, by the physicians that Corporal King would be released from their care iu ample time to join the other TJtah candidates. can-didates. However, at the last moment they decided to hold him at, the hospital hos-pital until he has regained his former strength, f'orporal King will lose none of his chances. He will enter the camp as soon as. his condition warrants.. Colonel Young Talks. In an informal talk before leaving regimental headquarters Colonel Youug congratulated the men upon their gooil fortune, in being selected for training. He said that they would be missed by the regiment, as they were the cream of the. noncommissioned officers' stafl, and he felt, that, be had .lost, much through their being taken away from the oiganization. But it was with pride, even at a sacrifice, that their names were recommended lor training which will eventually mean eommis sions, he added. Colonel Young then urged the men to conduct themselves with the same spirit which has made the Utah regiment famous here, and to put forth every effort to assimilate, the instructions so that they may win honored positions as commissioned of-ficers. of-ficers. Colonel Y'oung said that they jr probably will see no more duty with the Utah regiment, duo to the fact that they will be reserve corps officers, and he Invited them to visit the Utah camp and their friends as often as possible during the training period. Under command of First Sergeant Matthew Stein of D battery, the men marched from the Utah eamp to the western end of the cantonment, w hern the school will open its sessions Monday. The men will be quartered at the school during their instruction. Following inspection in-spection this morning, the a i- illeryinen were dismissed until tomorrow 'midnight. 'mid-night. Besides the preparations for the inspection,, no work was scheduled. Many of the men left, for San Piego to attend the rodeo which is being held in the stadium for the benefit of thci Red Gross. TJte sixty men, under command of Lieutenant. Theodore Peterson, forming the horse detail that arrived hero last night with the mounts, have assumed duty with their organizations. Ml were given leave this noon in order lo pay their first visit to .San Diego. Major 1 ,!
