Show I What The Tribune Has Achieved in One Year ': T N EVEET respect tlie year just ended was the most prosperous of any in the history of : i- The Tribune. The Tribune's second best year was 1916, but every, record made by the ; newspaper in that year was far exceeded in 1917. New high marks were made both in circa- i lation and advertising. j: During 1916, The Tribune carried 500,8-11 inches (7,137,774 lines) of paid advertising; in 1917 the amount was 555,096 inches (7,771,334 lines), a gain of 45,225 inches or 633,570 lines. I ;j The total volume of advertising in the four Salt Lake papers in 1917 was 1,546,488 inches, j j: of which The Tribune carried nearly 36 per cent. The gain in advertising new business ;' !; in the four papers amounted to 65,407 inches, of which The Tribune's share was 45,225 inches : nearly 70 per cent. This gain is the more remarkable because The Tribune in 1916 was '.; : among the leaders in the. United States in volume of advertising. : Comparative advertising figures for "the -";irs 1916 and 1917 for the four Salt Lake news- ; ; papers follow: . j; :j Tribune ; 1916 Total paid advertising 509,841 Inches i ;! 1917 Total paid advertising 555,096 Inches : Gain in 1917 ' 45,255 Inches j: !; Herald-Republican 1; 1916 Total paid advertising " 315,659. The accompanying statement for December of 1916 and 1917 : ' shows the year's gain. The 1916 figures are taken from records already audited by experts ; !; of the Audit Bureau -of Circulations and found correct.
