It has been some time since a novel of such charm, spontaneous humor and fresh menss as "The Rose-Garden Husband" Hus-band" has appeared. Though possessing all the traits just mentioned, this delightful delight-ful novel is conspicuous for its eletnent of simplicity. Phyllis. the "liberry teacher." was pretty and accomplished, and, above all, she " endeared herself to the little children with whom she had to contend In the primary deportment, of which she had charge. Phyllis was the dauijhtfr of an obscure vilh-fe clergyman, clergy-man, who, while he had Instilled into the mind and heart of his daughter light-hearteciness. light-hearteciness. a. delight for ihe beautiful and had seen to ft that she was well equipped im knowledge, left her little else, and upon his death Phyllis felt herself her-self belter equipped for public library work than any other vocation. Like most girls of sunny temperament, she longed for a home and home surroundings sur-roundings and. incidentally, in a. vague sort of way, for a husband, but most of all Phyllis lodged for a rose garden. So matters stood when Phyllis was visited at the library hy hii old friend, Mr. De Guenthf.r. who wanted to discuss with j her "a very different line of work." The ! very different line proved to be marrying j and taking care of an Invalid, and in re-! re-! turn Phyllis was to have a substafiUal ! income and a rose giirdcn. So faith-i faith-i fully and cheerily did Phyllis perform her duties as the rose-garden husband's wife . and attendant that the invalid gave sub-I sub-I stantial promise toward the end of the I story of developing Into a real hus-i hus-i band.
