Show Wmmi bill AMENDED By AUTHOR Representative Pope Makes Several Changes in Proposed Pro-posed Measure. The Pope apportionment bill. a,s amended by the author, anj the tinnis bill on the same subject will be up for consideration in the house early next week. Several amendments to the Pope bill were submitted to the measure yesterday yes-terday by Representative C. E. Pope of vBich county. i As ori finally drawn the Pope bill provided pro-vided for twenty-eight senators, one for each couutv in the state and fiftv-seven representatives.,, Tho bill, as amended by the author, now provides for twenty-nine twenty-nine senators and sixty -five members of the house, the additional senator being be-ing cdven to Salt Lake. The new apportionment, pives one senator and one representative to Beaver, Carbon, Duchesne, Emery, Grand, Garfield, Iron, Kane Morgan, j Millard. Piute, Rich, Summit, Sevier, San Juan, Tooele, Uinta, Wasatch, Washington and Wayne counties; ono senator and two representatives to Box-elder, Box-elder, Davis and Juab counties; one senator sen-ator and three representatives to Sanpete-county; one senator and four representatives rep-resentatives to Cache county; one senator sena-tor and six representatives to Utah and Weber counties, and two senators and twenty representatives to Salt Lake county. The increase in senatorial apportionment apportion-ment to Salt Lake is eared for under a provision in the amended bill, which al-, lows an additional senator to any county having more than 100,000 population. Mr. Pope does not aim to curtail the terms of any of the senators now serving, serv-ing, and if bis bill becomes a law there will be thirty senators instead of twenty-nine during the session of 1917, for the reason that Utah county has now two senators whose terms of office of-fice do not expire until 1919, while un- |
