Show EAST SIHS URGED' TO BEGIN Illi Well Attended Assembly Held to Arouse Interest in Spring Sports. For the first time in months an athletic ath-letic a-senrblv has been held at the east side -high school. On Friday the pupils gathered to arouse, spirit for spring athletics track and baseball. Efforts are being made to have ever;-" boy who is physically fit. try out for some sport. The fir.st call for candidates candi-dates will be made tomorrow afternoon and the first work will begin at once. Thus far there has been no official cal! for candidates, as few want to wori; indoors. Xo pupil has yet signed up for either sport, according tu L'oaea Fitzpatrick, but it is expected that more than 100 boys will report ou the initial call. Principal Ira D. Travis orjened Friday's Fri-day's assembly and urged all the beys who intend to try or.t this spring to heed the advice of the coach. AV. .. Coach Tommy FStzpatrick urged the boys to report for practice tomorrow, and also told them of the need of training, train-ing, lack of which he partially blames for the poor showing made in basketball basket-ball toward tho end of the season. Lack of training was said by many to have been the large factor in the disheartening dishearten-ing work of the hoopers. Although the ma.ioritv of the players trained faithfully, faith-fully, the few who would not train hurt the whole team. Principal George A. Eaton tcld the boys of the necessity of proper training, train-ing, and said that munching chocolates was ; feminine stuff. ' He said that if more of the boys took cart in athletics, it would be better for the school. He also spoke of the necessity of keeping in training, even though the bov were not out for ths teams. Air. Eaton outlined a plan whereby every boy and girl, must participate par-ticipate iu some athietic sport betore a craduatiou. - During the past week the boys st the east side have tossed the ball about in the gymnasium, and this week, shouid the. weathf-r clear suf f ieiently outdoor work will be started. A squad of fourteen four-teen men will be picked to compose the b3seball ciub. and although none of the nlayers has had anv previous experience in the high school baseball, a good nine should be developed.
