Show DISPUTE OVER THE TURKISH LOSSES DURING BATTLE CONSTANTINOPLE, Feb. 27, via London, 6:55 p. m. At the war office today the following statement was issued; is-sued; After being subjected for seven hours last Wednesday to bombardment bombard-ment by heavy gnus, the outer forts of the Oaidauelles were damaged dam-aged at some points, but we had only five billed and fourteen wounded. The enemy's fleet resumed re-sumed bombardment today, but in the afternoon retreated out of rango of our batteries at Sedd-el-Bahr. Some hundreds of soldiers who landed from French cruisers on the coast of Akabah (Arabia) were compelled to flee to their ships with heavy losses, after a two hours' battle. Despite the severity of cannon and machine gun fire we had only three killed and three wounded. LONDON, Feb. 27, 7 p. m. Tt ia reported re-ported from Soiia, Bulgaria, that the Turkish forces manning the fortifications fortifica-tions at the Dardanelles suitered heavy losses during the bombardment by the Anglo-French fleet. Reuter's Sofia correspondent cor-respondent says that according to credible information which has been obtained, about 600 wounded Turkish soldiers were taken from the Dardanelles Darda-nelles forts to Constantinople after the bombardment of February 19. |
