Show 1IIP1SS BILL IS BUTT OFHUMDRISTS Christensen Measure Is Finally Fi-nally Sent Back to Judiciary Judi-ciary Committee. The house had an hour of rare sport yesterday forenoon romping on the Christensen antipass bril. After the bill had been tossed about among the jokers of the house it was saved from death by Representative O. F. McShane, who succeeded in having it referred back to the judiciary committee of the house. When, the bill came up for final passage pas-sage Mr. Christensen explained that it forbade all common carriers from giving giv-ing tree transportation to anyone ave certain enumerated exceptions, the fcame exceptions as are enumerated in the lederal interstate commerce act. Immediately liepresentattive J. Alex Bevau of Tooele proposed an amendment amend-ment to provide that instead of forbidding forbid-ding the issuance of free transportation iho bill would compel common carriers to give free transportation to alt state officials. .Representative, J, L. Van Wagoner moved as a further amendment that railroads be compelled to give free transportation to all newspaper reporters. re-porters. Theu J. Louis Brown of Salt Lake suggested that a further amendment amend-ment bo made whereby the railroads would be compelled not onlv to give free transportation to state officials and newspaper men, but also to give them sufficient spending money that they might enjoy the trip. i The amendment to compel tho issuance is-suance of free transportation finally ; reached a vote, and was defoal-ed, 24 to :1S. .Representative Day then moved that the enactinng clause be stricken out of the bill. Representative McShane opposed op-posed the motion and moved as a substitute that the bill be recommitted. recom-mitted. Mr. Christensen opposed both motions, but the McPhauo motion prevailed, pre-vailed, only Brown, Christensen, Croft, Fnnis, Goodwin, Morris, Xebeker, Oldham Old-ham and Page voting against tho motion mo-tion to recommit. Tho bill was sent back to the judiciary committee. |
