Teas, bridge parties and dances go merrily on, in spito of the fact that - forty days of supposed social quiet was inaugurated ton days ago. Even many church folks aro not observing the I' penitontial season as strictly as usual and are attending social functions, even if they are not doing much entertaining. The largest social event of tho past , week, as well as an important ono in club circles, was tho breakfast given at I the Hotel Utah Friday, celebrating the IJr thirty-eighth anniversary of the La-. La-. r dies' Literary club, tho oldest woman's elub in the city. A noticeable feature in tho attendance at the breakfast was the fact that it included the most representative repre-sentative women iu Salt Lake from a standpoint of social prominence, literary lit-erary ability and philanthropic activity. THE Chi Omega fraternity of the University of Utah entertained with its annual banquet at the Hotel I Utah last night. The table was laid in : the banquet room and was in the form ! of the Greek letter Chi. Baskets of I white carnations, the fraternity flower, I tied with cardinal and straw, the fra-! ternity colors, were used as decorations. j A white carnation was at each plate j and the place cards and menus had the Chi Omega seal iu gold and were tied with cardinal and straw ribbon. Covers were laid for sixty, including the active members of the fraternity and the alumnae. A programme of toasts followed the banquet, with Miss Amy Farnsworth as toastmistress. Miss Edith Kingsbury Kings-bury sang "A Perfect Day." The theme of the toasts was "A Perfect Year in Chi Omega," A toast to "Spring, the Dawn of New Hopes," was given by Miss Edith Barlow. "Summer a Fuller Eealization " was tho subject of a toast by Miss Vera Foulger. "Autumn, Fall Eleusinia " was-toasted by Miss Egarda McMullen A toast to "Winter, Our Initiates " was given by Miss Eva Williams. Household Arts l club of the University of Utah gave a large dancing partv at the Le Grande ward amusement hall last night The decorations were in the club colors, brown and gold, prettily carried out bv golden jonquils in brown baskets. The dance programmes were printed in brown and had gold cords attached to tho pencils. Wafers served with punch were in brown and gold. The punch table in one corner of the hall was adorned with the jonquils. The officers of the club are Misa Chlo Bateman, president; Miss Geneve Brinton, vice president; Miss Elizabeth Bobbins, secretary sec-retary and treasurer. Punch was served by Miss Jessie Young and Miss Marie i Bobbins. The patrons were Mr. and 1 Mrs. C. E, Eobbins, Mr. and Mrs. W. I J. The tea tablo was springlike in daffodils, with a yellow cIor scheme prevailing- throughout.
