Show 1 I by Joey Sasso J ' I CONFIDENTIAL REPORT: 'Shogun,' claimed by its pro- j j ducers to be the most expensive mini-series made for TV, j I was insured by one of the largest policies issued on an I ' I entertainment project. Over-all cost of the production J I was estimated at $20 million. Fireman's Fund Insurance I I Companies, an insurer of motion picture and TV pro- I I I grams, provided a total of $48 million protection that I i I covered cast performance, master copy of the negative I film, faulty camera work, props, sets, wardrobe, extra ex- I I pense and third-party damage . . . There is a good deal I I more to Leigh McCloskey, the newly arrived young I I medical school student, Mitch Cooper, in CBS-TV's I I 'Dallas,' than meets the eye. The eye sees what appears J I to be the typical blond California beach-goer. In actuality, J I he is an experienced, solidly trained, dedicated young ac- j I tor who takes his craft seriously, paints, sketches, plays I J guitar, molds clay, is fascinated by scenic design and I j once had serious notions of being a marine biologist. In J fact, looking ahead at himself 10 years from now, he I I pauses, "I would hope to be able to look back and know I I I had never sold out." . . . 'Ryan's Hope' is slated to go on I II location to Ireland. This is the second time the show has I I made a pilgrimage to the 'old sod.' I TV BACKSTAGE: One of the most beautiful new faces on j the town this season in New York is the TV model Nina 1 Reeves, whose home base is the 'riding-to-hounds' coun-I coun-I try in Far Hills, New Jersey where one of her horsey com-J com-J panions is none other than Jackie Onassis. As a matter I of fact, her dad is none other than Richard Stone 1 Reeves, who ranks as the leading painter of race horses (I in America. Nina is now under heavy consideration as a I 'Charlie's Angels' replacement and we can see I why . . . Danny Thomas has made a deal with the boss of his new ABC-TV series, 'I'm A Big Girl Now.' If the show I is a hit, Danny will get special time off to make fund rais-l rais-l ing appearances for his St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and will make up for his absences by shooting I scenes whenever his employer dictates. A good I substitute title for the show, if it wasn't already taken, is I 'All In The Family,' since Danny's producer is his own son, I Tony. I TV CLOSEUP: Veteran performer Henderson Forsythe I (Dr. David Stewart on 'As The World Turns') will be star-I star-I ring in the new feature film 'Crisis at Central High,' which I is currently in production. The film also stars Joanne I Woodward . . . Viewers should come prepared for an ex-I ex-I traordinary experience of raw animal vitality in 'Etosha: I Place of Dry Water,' the brilliant wildlife film which I premieres the 1981 season of National Geographic I Specials on Public Television on January 7. This film I launches the Society's sixth year on Public Television. I The specials are co-produced with WQEDPittsburgh I under a continuing grant from Gulf Oil I Corporation . . . Generally speaking, most people choose I to vacation in some idyllic setting where they can sight-I sight-I see or lounge on a sun-drenched beach, but lovely I Kristen Meadows (Mimi King) of 'One Life to Live' I spends her precious time off on a fat farm in New Jersey. I Her efforts nave certainly paid off as viewers got to see 1 just how this spicy blonde was running around Uanview's jlHealth Club in an adorable little string bikini. . |
