Show Why use unleaded gasoline? Motorists often wonder why they should buy unleaded gasoline gaso-line when they could save money by purchasing leaded regular. According to Amoco Oil Company, Com-pany, federal law requires the use of unleaded gasoline only, in cars equipped with catalytic converters, con-verters, and service stations are prohibited from selling leaded gftsoline for use in these cars. The Clean Air Act mandated that auto manufacturers produce cars with lower levels of polluting pollut-ing emissions. To achieve these new pollution control standards, most car makers equipped their 1975 and later model year cars with catalytic converters that would convert exhaust pollutants into harmless carbon dioxide , and water.
