Clay Johnson, a Jensen resident, has recently authored a feature article, "Starting Them Young" for the magazine "Fly Fishing the West" January 1981 issue. Johnson is an avid fly fisherman and is the past president of the Uintah Fly Fishing Club in Vernal. He has helped many times with the club project to clean up the Kids Canal in Maeser so that youngsters can have a place to wet their lines. He has met with the city in an effort to protect the fishing in Ashley Creek. A firm believer in barbless hooks, he frequently turns loose unharmed fish to not only let them grow and be more sport the next time around, but to also preserve the species so there will be fishing for years to come". u Father of two young sons, he has instilled in them the desire to become good sportsmen and appreciate their environment and the thrills of fishing even if nothing is caught. Johnson was born in Gainsville, Fla., and has lived in many states. After his marriage, he and his wife Dusty, lived in Salt Lake City, then decided to move to a smaller area; moving to Vernal in 1972. Later they moved to the Brush Creek area in Jensen. This is the second article that has been written by Johnson to appear in the fly fishing magazine. The first was "All That Glitters." His most recent article tells about what kind of fly fishing to start kids out with and the experiences they have while learning to fly fish. |
