Show Committee organize beauty contest The Miss Uintah Basin-USA Beauty Pageant to be held Saturday, Dec. 27, 8 p.m., at the Vernal Junior High School Auditorium has on its board of organizers and directors, five local persons having attained many achievements, which adds celebrity to the Basin's first local beauty pageant that is affiliated to Miss Utah, Miss USA and the Miss Universe contests. Carolyn Hanchett, Linda Toone, Laura Morrison, ReNee Gardiner and Mary Morrison Gardner are those ladies who comprise the pageant committee officers. of-ficers. Laura Morrison is a graduate of Uintah High School and attended the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. In 1977 she received her certificate from Barbizon International School of Modeling. Laura started Vernal's first Charm School. Last summer she was a judge for the state pageant of Miss Utah Teen World held in Park City. Laura was co-chairman of Bridal Show in Vernal for several years. She is the wife of Bob Morrison and has three married daughters and one son. Concerning Con-cerning the pageant she states, "It is more work than I expected, but every bit worth the effort. This is a great growing experience for all concerned, the girls and the committee and an entertaining experience for the people of the area." Laura is the Miss Uintah Basin-USA committee chairman. Mary Morrison Gardner, daughter of Laura Morrison, is a 1977 Uintah High School graduate. She attended Utah Tech College in Provo where she studies fashion merchandising. She graduated from Barbizon Modeling School. Mary is the treasurer for the Miss Uintah Basin-USA Pageant. She is also teaching the mini-modeling class to the girls. Mary has participated in three state beauty pageants. She won first runner-up in the Miss Utah World Pagent in 1977. Mary is married to Rich Gardner and is the mother of a two-month two-month old girl. Linda Toone was born in Salt Lake City. She is a Uintah High School graduate and attended the University of Utah. She, like Laura and Mary, is also a Barbizon graduate. She is active in the Chamber of Commerce through her and her husband's photography business, Aspen Photography. Linda was co-chairman with Laura Morrison on the now discontinued bridal shows, which were held in Vernal. Linda is active in church organizations and the Community Christmas Committee. She also served on the Ashley PTA for two years. She is married to Walter Toone and theyr are the parents of . two daughters. Linda serves as the publicity and public relations officer for the pageant. Carolyn Hanchett is in charge of the pageant program. Carolyn is the daughter of Denzel and Irene Adams of Vernal. She was raised in Vernal and is a Uintah High School graduate. Carolyn was the youngest woman to receive a real estate license in Utah at the time of her testing. She also was one of the first computer supplies representatives in Utah. Carolyn was involved in the Miss Teenage America pageant in Salt Lake City as well as being responsible for several professional plays to be performed in Vernal. She is married to Frank Hanchett. They are the parents of three daughters. Carolyn comments on the excitement of the upcoming event, "I am really excited about my involvement in-volvement in the pageant because I know it is a growing experience for the girls and they benefit greatly. I am pleased with the work and time spent making this such a professional production." ReNee Gardiner is a licensed beautician at the Hair Affair in Vernal. Among her professional qualifications, aside from hair styling, she is accomplished ac-complished in the art of applying makeup make-up and doing facials. She also teaches a 1 mini-seminar each year instructing in "Individual Seasons Color." ReNee attended Derrells College of Beauty in Salt Lake City. She obtained her beauticians license while employed at Joyce's House of Beauty. She later registered into Evans College of Beauty in the fall of 1980 to complete refresher courses in hair styling. While there she taught facial and make-up classes. ReNee is the director of entrys for the pageant. ReNee is married to Wayne Gardiner and they are the parents of 2 boys and 1 girl. |
