Show The Henry brothers placed first and second in the Uintah Tournament as the Uintah junior varsity team under the direction of Chuck Henry placed first at 164i points and the Pleasant Grove junior varsity team under the coaching of Darold Henry netted second place at 114 points. Chuck and Darold were placed on opposite op-posite ends of the mat many times in the Uintah Tournament and one such match was the 145 pound championship encounter between Uintah's Frank Atwood At-wood and Johnson of Pleasant Grove. The Atwood-Johnson match had both Henry coaches on the edge of their chairs. Johnson dropped Atwood for a takedown in the first round, but Atwood came roaring back as he gained a neutral, takedown, two-point near fall and a three-point near fall for an 8 to 2 lead after one round. When he got me on my back I was a bit scared. I decided I better get up and get out of there and I did," remarked Uintah's Frank Atwood. At-wood. "Frank Atwood did an outstanding job in the tournament. Frank is going down to 138 pounds and will challenge the varsity tussler. Bucky Tingey won the most pins (three) in least time award and placed first at 138 pounds. Bucky's a good little wrestler. He is a smart wrestler. He uses his head well. Roger Griffin placed first in the heavyweight class and he did a good job," commented Uintah High School wrestling coach, Chuck Henry. Woodhouse is a member of the Brigham Young University wrestling team. BYU placed third in the meet with 63 Vz points and Cal State-Bakersfield netted first place at 82 points. San Jose State netted second se-cond place at 68 points. BYU's Jeff Needs, 177 and Chad Teichert, 150, also placed first. Three former Uintah High School wrestlers, Scott Ruppe, three-time state champion, 1975, 1976 and 1977; Matt Hacking, third placer at 1979 and 1980 state tournaments and Morgan Woodhouse, two-time state champion in 1978 and 1979, competed in the 142 pound weight class in the Tucson Tournament. Tour-nament. None of the three wrestlers placed, but each won matches. Woodhouse posted a 2-2 record and Hacking and Ruppe posted 1-2 records. Woodhouse defeated Hacking, 8 to 1 and pinned Ruppe in the second round. Ruppe is a member of the Nevada Las Vegas wrestling team and Hacking is a tussler on the Weber State team. Kenny Cobbs, another Uintah High School wrestler, who placed second at the state meets in 1979 and 1980, is a member of the Weber State team. Cobbs competed in the 190 pound class, but lost both his matches. |
