The Utes will battle Rock Springs and Green River on the road this week. 1 Utfe varsity crew tf slash ) on flhe road In Wyoming : The Uintah Ute girls' varsity basketball team will take on Rock Springs, Thursday and Green River, Wyoming, Friday on the road. The game with Rock Springs will begin at 8 p.m. and the varsity game with Green River will start at 7:30 p.m. The Utes will battle Cyprus, Jan. 8. Uintah's varsity crew began the week with a 3-0 record, but after games with Rock Springs and Grand Junction Central, the Utes finished the week with a 3-2 mark. Uintah had a 13 to 12 lead after one quarter of action in Thursday's encounter en-counter against the Rock Springs Tigers. Teresa Smith fired in three field goals and Chris Mott put in two two--pointers for the Utes in the first quarter. However, Rock Springs out-scored out-scored Uintah, 22 to 9, to take a lead of 34 to 22 at the end of the second quarter. The score at the end of the third quarter was 45-28 in favor of Rock Springs. The final score was: Rock Springs, 71 and Uintah, 56. Smith was the top scorer for Uintah with 16 points on seven field goals and two free throws. Darian Abegglen scored 13 points. She put in two field goals and hit nine out of 13 free throws. Also scoring points for Uintah were: Lisa Jorgensen, 6; Rhonda Rhodes, 6; Pennie Murray, 5; Jodene Merkley, 3 and Chantae Julius, 1. Uintah fired in 15 field goals and hit 20 out of 32 free throws. The top scorers for Rock Springs were Evans and Carter with 17 points each. Uintah suffered their second loss in a row when they were thumped by Central in Grand Junction, 59 to 42. The scores by quarters were: first quarter, Central, 18 and Uintah, 9; second quarter, Central 33 and Uintah, 21; third quarter, Central, 40 and Uintah,34 and fourth quarter, Central, 59 and Uintah, 42. Uintah outscored Central, 13 to 8. in the third quarter. Merkley and Rhodes scored four points each in the third quarter. Smith was the top scorer for the Utes with ten points. She firedjn four field goals and hit 2 out of 5 free throws. Also scoring points for Uintah were: Murray, 8; Rhodes, 8; Abegglen, 6; Merkley, 5; Chris Mott, 3 and Heidi Green, 2. The Utes fired in 13 field goals and hit 16 out of 24 free throws. The top Central scorers were Cathy Lowell, 19 and Kim Asnicor, 15. Uintah defeated Altamont on Dec. 4 in Vernal by the score of 61 to 49. The scores by quarters were: first quarter. Uintah, 14 and Altamont . quarter, Uintan, 34 and AW third quarter.
