In the junior division Michelle Schofield placed first, 2nd-Melissa Schofield, 3rd-Amy 3rd-Amy Schofield and 4th-Lynette Wilde. All of these received trophies. In the ladies division the all-around winners were as follows: lst-Peggy Briggs, tod-Louise tod-Louise Neff, 3rd-Edie Pallesen, 4th-Brenda 4th-Brenda Douglas, and 5th-Valree Muir. The barrel racing winners were: 1st-Louise 1st-Louise Neff, 2nd-Peggy Briggs, 3rd-Brenda 3rd-Brenda Douglas, 4th-Reta Logan, and Chris Schofield and Edie Pallesen tied for 5th place. The pole bending winners were 1st-Valree 1st-Valree Muir, 2nd-Louise Neff, 3rd-Peggy 3rd-Peggy Griggs, 4th-Fayette Wilde, and 5th-Reta Logan. The stake race winners were lst-Peggy lst-Peggy Briggs, 2nd Louise Neff, 3rd-Brenda 3rd-Brenda Douglas, 4th-Reta Logan, 5th-Fayette 5th-Fayette Wilde. The goat tying winners were lst-Edie Pallesen, 2nd-Peggy Briggs, 3rd-Cindy Hickey, 4th-Louise Neff and 5th-Margery 5th-Margery Hullinger. All winners received a buckle and the others received tack. The 1980 officers were Brenda Douglas, president; Wendy Wen-dy Christensen, vice president; Luann Guest, secretary. The 1981 officers are Edie Pallesen, president; Christy Behunin, vice president; presi-dent; Luann Guest, secretary. Anyone interested in joining the Manila Barrel Racing club may contact any of the 1981 officers. The Manila Elementary School was vandalized on December 9. Five windows win-dows were broken out of one class room. Daggett County Sheriff's office reports that a juvenile has been questioned ques-tioned and referred to the juvenile court for the incident. The Villa was broken into, reported damages were one dryer and door. The matter is under investigation by the sheriff 's office.' ii The Sheriff's office has answered several calls concerning shooting in Manila. Everyone is reminded that shooting a firearm is not allowed inside the town. Queen Judy Reed and King Dave Potter Pot-ter reigned over the homecoming game and dance Friday night, Dec. 12. The queen's first attendant was Shannon Manley; second attendant, Christy Jo Triplett. The king's first attendant was Kevin Slaugh, 2nd, Kurt Reed. The game and dance completed a whole week of homecoming activities. Each day of the week was given a name. Students came to school dressed to represent the various names of the days. Monday they had 50's day, Tuesday-baby day, Wednesday-either "Old Folks" or twin day; Thursday-Cowboy Thursday-Cowboy and Indians day, Friday-spirit day. Everyone wore the school colors-red colors-red and white. Friday afternoon an assembly was held. Prizes were given for the best costumes during the week. The girl's prize was won by Susan Cook and the boy's prize by Kurt Reed. Just at dark the large "M" behind the school was burned. During the games, at half time, the royalty was announced. announc-ed. The halls had been decorated by the different classes and prizes were given for the best. First place was won by the junior class, 2nd-sophomore class, 3rd-the 3rd-the freshmen. The drill team presented a drill at half time; also, a quilt was given away. Manila won both games. Manila Elementary school will present pre-sent a program at the Manila High School gymnasium. This is always the best attended program of the year as everyone comes to see the students perform per-form and Santa Claus. Daggett schools will have two weeks vacation. No contests or games will be held during the Christmas-New Year's holiday. Jan. 2, Altamont basketball players will play Manila at Manila. On Jan. 3 Manila boys will play basketball against Mt. Vernon Academy. Mrs. Leona Sexton left last Friday for Olympia, Wash, to spend the holidays with her daughter Mrs. J. Swaner. Manila High School music department depart-ment assisted by singers from the community com-munity presented the "Messiah" at the Dutch John ward on Sun., Dec. 14. They had presented it at the Manila and McKinnon wards the previous Sunday. The M&L Club will hold the annual Christmas party at the Daggett County courthouse on Thurs., Dec. 19. This is the time new members are to join. Members will also exchange Christmas presents and reveal their secret pal names. A hamper of gifts will be given away. Each member is to bring a gift for the hamper. The Manila LDS ward has planned a special Christmas program to be given Sunday morning Dec. 21. Marshall Briggs, son of Mr. and Mrs. William M. Briggs, spent the past weekend with his parents in Manila. Debbie Reed and Derlene Reed, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Deri Reed, were home for the weekend from USU in Logan. Mrs. Eldene Stewart and son, Charles, are visiting at the home of Mrs. Stewart's son Stanley and family. Daggett school employees will hold a Christmas party at the Villa Cafe the evening of Dec. 16. The Manila High School music department will entertain the senior citizens at the senior citizen dinner to be held at noon on Wed., Dec. 17. Gary Pallesen and Teri Miller accompanied ac-companied Mr. and Mrs. Clay Muir to the National Rodeo Finals in Oklahoma City, Okla. |
