McCurdy had a 3-2 lead, but Trjmbia won the 126 pound championship contest in the Uintah Tournament Tourna-ment when he gained a takedown with seven seconds left in the match. Ufe JV crew colleefs ffirsfl place in Uinfah Toyrgigifie The Uintah Utes added another wrestling tournament crown to their stuffed trophy case when their junior varsity team pocketed first place in the Uintah Tournament, Saturday with a total of 164l2 points. Pleasant Grove nabbed second place at 114 points and Green River placed third at 96 Ms counters. Viewmont netted fourth place with 82 points and Steamboat Springs garnered fifth place at 81 counters. Rock Springs netted sixth place with 76'2 points and Meeker captured seventh place at 59 points. Union netted eighth place with 35'2 counters. Uintah completely dominated the tournament as eight Ute matmen advanced into the championship finals and three placed first and five netted second places. Two of the Uintah second placers came pretty close to nabbing first place crowns. The Utes' Frank Atwood, 145, pocketed his second straight Uintah Tournament title when he toppled Johnson of Pleasant Grove, 17 to 9. Johnson dropped Atwood for a takedown and a 2-0 lead, but the two point advantage vas shortlived as Atwood became a wild man out on the mat as he gained a neutral, takedown, two-point near fall and a three-point near fall for an 8 to 2 lead after one round of action. Atwood and Johnson staged a wild second round as Atwood gained three reversals and Johnson scared the Uintah Ute fans with a three-point near fall and two reversals. Atwood had a 14 to 9 lead at the end of the second round. Atwood dominated the action in the third round as he placed Johnson's shoulder blades on the mat for a three-point three-point near fall and a 17 to 9 victory. Atwood also defeated Stetson of Steamboat Springs and Hamblin of Union. Atwood was named as the outstanding wrestler in the meet. Uintah's Bucky Tingey became the Utes' first champion in the tournament when he pinned Bostrom of Steamboat Springs with 1:33 left in the third round. Tingey, 138, gained a 2-0 lead in the first round when he decked Bostrom for a takedown. However, the Steamboat Springs tussler gained a reversal to tie up the score at 2-2. Tingey added a takedown and a three-point near fall in the second round and a reversal in the third round before he ended the match with a fall. Tingey also pinned Zesinger of Viewmont and Miller of Union. Tingey won the most pins in the least time award with three falls. The Utes' third place champion was ' independent tussler, Roger Griffin in the heavyweight class. Griffin pocketed a 3-2 lead after one round of action due to a takedown and a neutral. Weeks gained a reversal. Weeks acquired a takedown and a reversal in the second round, but Griffin nabbed a neutral, reversal and a three-point near fall. Griffin also defeated Gibson o Viewmont. Two Uintah Utes, Torr McCurdy, 126 and Russ Anderson, 185, had shots at first place titles, but they fell short and placed second. McCurdy jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first round due to a takedown, but Trumble of Green River gained a reversal in the second round to tie up the contest at 2-2 Uintah's McCurdy gained a neutral with 45 seconds left in the match to take a 3-2 lead, but Trumble acquired a takedown with seven seconds remaining to garner the 126 pound championship by the score of 4-3. McCurdy defeated Look and Radar of Meeker. Uintah's Anderson dropped Webb of Steamboat Springs for a takedown and" placed the Sailor's shoulder blades on the mat, but Webb escaped the pinning situation. Anderson had a 5-1 lead going in the second round in the 185 pound championship match, but Webb ended Anderson's first place dreams when he pinned the Uintah matman with 25 seconds left in the second round. Anderson An-derson downed Millar of Pleasant Grove and Peterson of Viewmont. Also garnering second places for Uintah High School were Brent Morrill, 98; Kent Boren, 132, an independent tussler and Weeks.Nheavyweight. Morrill placed second when he was toppled by Joe Dallman of Green River, 10 to 1. Morrill defeated White of Union and Greaves. Taylor of Steamboat Springs pinned Boren with 20 seconds left in the third round in the battle for first place. Taylor gained a 5-0 lead in the first round, but Boren gained a reversal and a three-point near fall to tie up the contest at 5-5. However, Taylor ended the contest with a fall. Boren downed Piatt of Viewmont and Brad Dickson of Uintah. Weeks was downed by Uintah's Griffin in the championship match, but he defeated Mouritsen of Pleasant Grove. Also placing in the tournament for Uintah were: Keith Campbell, 112; third; Larson Caldwell, 119, fourth; Brad Dickson, 132, fourth and Jody Young, 155, third. Campbell garnered third place when hexblanked Price of Viewmont, 4-0. Campbell gained a takedown in the first round h reversal m the second round Kw of Rock Springs decisioned Uintah, 8 to 4, in the battle faffe' place. Young garnered third place in th, pound contest when he pinned GrZ, of Pleasant Grove with 56 second in the second round.
