Show Consumer tip: Daily short automobile trips hurt your car's gas mileage more than long drives at sustained speed. A vehicle started cold and driven four miles may actually ac-tually average only about eight miles per gallon. The same vehicle, warmed warm-ed up and driven 15 miles, may average 13 miles per gallon. Don't idle your engine excessively to warm it ; just drive slowly the first few blocks. On long trips, speeds between bet-ween 50 mph and 60 mph are far more economical and efficient than 60 and above. At 70, you are throwing gas away by the bucketfull. |
