Show Uinvah girls' JV cagrs nip Grand Junefion, 33-32 Pennie Murray scored all of Uintah's points in overtime with two field goals to deliver a one-point victory to the Utes by the score of 33 to 32 over the Grand Junction Central junior varsity squad in a game in Grand Junction, Friday. Uintah jumped out to a 9 to 2 lead in the first quarter as Murray scored five points and Heidi Green put in four points. Central's Dana Latta tossed in a field goal for Grand Junction Central. Central cut Uintah's lead to two points, 16 to 14, when they outscored the Utes 12 to 7 in the second quarter. Latta exploded for a lot of points as she scored eight points in the second quarter. Uintah scored nine points in the third quarter and Central put in six points. The Utes had a five-point lead of 25-20 going into the fourth quarter. The Utes suffered a scoring drought in the fourth quarter as they scored only four points on two field goals by Green. Central scored nine points to send the game into overtime due to a 29-29 tie. Central scored three points in overtime over-time on a free throw by Tita Boromeo and a field goal by Diane Wesney. However, Uintah scored one more point on two field goals by Murray to win the game by the score of 33 to 32. Murray and Green were the top Uintah Uin-tah scorers with 14 points each. Murray and Green put in six field goals and connected con-nected on two free throws. Also scoring points for Uintah were Lynnette Mer-rell, Mer-rell, 3 and Vicki Fowler, 2. Uintah put in 14 field goals and hit 5 out of 22 free throws. Latta was the top scorer for Central with 16 points on eight field goals. Uintah's junior varsity team scored 19 points in the first three quarters and they almost matched the 19-poiiit total with a 17-point explosion in the fourth quarter in a 39 to 36 loss to Rock Springs, Spr-ings, Thursday, in Vernal. Rock Springs had a 10 to 6 lead at the end of the first quarter and had a 19 to 13 advantage after two quarters of action. ac-tion. The Tigers put in 14 points and Uintah put in six points to make the score at the end of the third quarter, 33 to 19, in favor of Rock Springs. The Uintah Utes gained the hot hand in the fourth quarter as they outscored Rock Springs, 17 to 6. Green pounded in eight points on two field goals and four free throws in the fourth quarter. Julius and Murray scored four points each. Murray was the top scorer in the game with 12 points on four field goals and four free throws. Green tossed in ten points on three field goals and four free throws. She was 4 for 4 from the foul line. Uintah put in 12 field goals and hit 12 out of 16 free throws.
