Show SWEEPJTERRITOHY Unusual Demand for Olds-mobile Olds-mobile Power Wagon Is Cited by Tourssen. The large Bales of Oldsmobile Economy Econ-omy trucks mado by A. E. Tourssen, 115--159 south Main street, local Olds-mobile Olds-mobile dealer, reflects the immediate favor into which the new trucks sprang when they were placed on the market onlv two months ago. The demand for tiie Oldsmobile Economy Econ-omy truck was so heavy early last week, that the entire stock at Tours-sen's Tours-sen's was wiped out in a few davs, while orders continued to come in. J'ho arrival of four carloads of new trucks mado immediate delivery possible, although al-though the sales are keeping up and there is every evidence that the latest consignment will be exhausted within a short time. An expansion which makes automobile automo-bile history is being accomplished at the Oldsmobile factory in Lansing. : Mich., according to a message received j this week from A. F. Tourssen, who is now visiting the Oldsmobile plant, where passenger cars and trucks are being turned out at top speed in an effort ef-fort to catch up with orders. iir. Tourssen 's telegram, in p3rt, follows: "The many rumors in this city concerning con-cerning the " expansion plans of tha Oldsmobile plant were far overshadowed overshad-owed when Edward Ver Linden, president, presi-dent, announced the schedule of building build-ing operations that have gone into effect. ef-fect. The plans call for seven new buildings whieh will add approximately 1,000,0U0 square feet of floor space to the plant. The most important of these is the new axle plant which . will be built in two units. Ground has alreadv been broken for the first unit, which will be 750 by 140 feet and will cost, with its equipment, $1,325,000. It will bring into use 267,000 square feet of floor space and its capacity will be so great that axles will be furnished other General Motors units. "The assembly building is to be extended ex-tended to a total length of 1840 ieet, the longest single building in the Tjnit-od Tjnit-od States to be devoted to automobile assembly. A new sheet metal and enameling en-ameling plant will be started at once. This will be 480 by ISO feet, total floor space, 155,500 square feet. In the ovens now being built, the stock is automatically automat-ically dipped, baked and dried without once requiring human attention. This building will cost $400,000; its equipment, equip-ment, $150,000. "A new building providing more commodious quarters for the sewing and trimming departments will be constructed con-structed and will be one of the finest daylight sewing rooms in the country. Increase in the number of employees will be made by placing 000 workmen in addition to the present large force. Wlien the new buildings are completed, which will probably be by the end of the year, more than 4500 workmen will be employed by Oldsmobile. ' ' Since the Oldsmobile Economy truck was placed on the market a couple of months ago, the demand for it has been phenomenal. Although our passenger pas-senger car production has already passed our highest pre-war mark, we have not as j-et been able to catch up to the orders on file in our offices." |
