Show Jewelers Shops Are Gleaned of i California Coins i J1 EWELERS of Salt Laka wers ! given a jolt yesterday when j William. H. Davenport, local secret ) service" operator, visited several j i stores and gathered up $2000 worth j ; of coins, sold hy them as "California "Califor-nia gold coins." Cuff links, neck- J laces, pins and other articles of jew- ! elry containing the coins were also included in tho cleanup. Tha gathering in of these coins ! here resulted from a decision of a court in another state that they were j illegal, although they do not resemble resem-ble any gold coin issued by the gov- j eminent. The coins bearing nu- inerals such as 1, 50 and 25 were ! especially given attention by the se- j cret service operative. The coins ! are said to be of four-karat gold. The coins will be held here, Mr. Davenport said, until decision is made in TJtah as to whether the sell- ! ing of them is logal or illegal. If j found illegal the coins will be con- I fiscatod and the jewelers subjected to fines, ho added. Other stores will be visited soon in the roundup of 1 the coins. |
