Willey, 1435 Gilmer avenue, lately sergeant In E battery of the 145th field artillery, was dangerously injured when tho automobile automo-bile he was driving' was struck by a street cur yesterday afternoon near Second Sec-ond East and Fourth South streets. He was taken to the L. D. S. hospital, where an operation was performed, and a piece of bone was taken from his forehead. fore-head. He was unconscious at an early hour this morning. He was 20 years of age and a graduate gradu-ate of the West high school, where he was a captain during his course in the Cadet corps. He served in France with the Utah artillery and had recently resumed re-sumed his work here. Ha was employed in the office of the Randall-Dodd Motor Car company. At the time of the accident he was driving a car from the parage of his firm. The collision occurred when Willey Wil-ley was attempting to turn his machine about 100 feet west of the intersection of Fourth South and S-cond East streets-He streets-He had been driving east on Fourth South street, it is said, and was evidently trying to start back west when he was struck as his machine reached the car tracks. Mdtorman J. H. Budgett of street car No. 109 was bringing his car and baseball trailer west on Fourth South street when the accident occurred. According to ' eyewitnesses, 'neither, the automobile nor the street car was going fast. Apparently Ap-parently the motorman, it is said, did not expect Willey to make the turn before be-fore reaching the street intersection. Young Willev was one of the most prominent enlisted members of the 145th regiment, and hag a wide circle of acquaintances ac-quaintances in the school and soldier circles of the city. His father was formerly for-merly assistant city attorney. |
