Show MACE'S BIRTHDAY TO BE FITTINGLY KEPT XORWICH, England, May 17. Jem Mace's birthday will be fittingly observed by the friends of the late pugilist by the decoration of the monument which has been raised to his memory in this city. Mace, who was champion during the greater part of the period 3S02 to 1S72, died in 1010 at the ripe old age of SO. Tin fought over fifty battles, losing but twice, and that to in en whom he later defeated. He made nearly $1,000,000 during dur-ing his career, but died poor, dependent upon the government. |
