Show STATE INSTITUTION AFFECTED BY WAR OGDEX, Sept. 11. Superintendent Frank M. Driggs of the School for the Deaf and Blind announced tonieht that the institution is being affected by the war, students in the upper grades sending send-ing word in many instances that they will be delayed in entering school because their services are needed in handling crops. The deaf and blind students are excluded, exclud-ed, the superintendent pointed out, from alt military service, but they are devoting much time to food conservation and other "back of the line" assistance. The school lias a cannery which has been a busy ' place during the year and in this plant lias been packed about 1000 cans of apri- 1 cots, 2000 cans of apple sauce and other fruit and it will handle about 5000 cans of tomatoes, all to be ised in the institution. The fruits and the vegetables canned are all grown on the state farm in connection con-nection with the institution. |
