Show ILLINOIS STRIKE FAILS TO SPREAD SPRINGFIELD. UK. Sept. 11. The general gen-eral strike of all Springfield trade unionists union-ists following the "rebellion" of 5000 coal miners and railway shopmen yesterdav, resulting from the action of the police and military authorities Sunday in breaking break-ing up a parade of street car strike sympathizers, sym-pathizers, failed to materialize today as recommended by the joint street car strike committee. Forty sheet metal workers today joined the ranks of the miners and the shopmen of the Wabash and C. P. & St. L. railroad rail-road companies, who declared yesterday they would not return to work until their rights of assemblage and free speech, had been recognized by the authorities. A number of local unions in various trades have called meetings for tonight to vote on the question of quitting work as a protest. |
