Show SILVER REACHES 97 CENTS PER OUNCE Silver went to 97 cents an ounce ves-terday ves-terday at the local assay office and it is expected that the white metal will go to a dollar an ounce within a few davs. This is the highest price paid for silver since 1S91. Some of the silver-lead mines throughout through-out the Intormountain country are compelled com-pelled to hold back their ore shipments to the smelters on account of the freight ; embargo which has been placed on ores by local railroads. The smelters are buying buy-ing all the silver ores thev can get. but owing to the car situation the railroads are not moving the ores as quickly as they have in the past. C. TV. Whitley, general manager of the American Smelting & Refining conipanv, said yesterday that the smelters stand ready to handle all silver ores which they can get. |
