Spencer, general passenger agent of the Oregon Short Line, has been designated by the railroad w'ar board as the official representative of the American Ameri-can Railway association in Utah In connection con-nection with the movement of the draft army. Mr. Spencer will co-operate with the governor and the adjutant general with !a view to relieving the state officials of all details pertaining to the transportation transporta-tion of the drafted troops. For the time that he may be needed in this capacity , Mr. Spencer will be loaned to the state and federal governments by the Oregon Short Line, but in no way will his stand- j tng with the company be affected. The appointment of Mr. Spencer is in ' line with the programme outlined by tbe railroad war board for the purpose of lending every possible assistance to the government in preparing for and carrying carry-ing on the war. The plan provides for the appointment of an experienced traffic official in each state to co-operate with the state and federal officials in troop movements. In selecting Mr. Spencer the railroad war board has chosen the widest expe- I rienced traffic official in Utah. He began his career as a messenger boy in the service serv-ice of the old Utah Central railroad and after serving as a telegrapher for a time was transferred to the traffic department. Prior to his appointment as general passenger pas-senger agent of tbe Oregon Short line a little more than a year ago he bad served many years as assistant general passenger pas-senger agent of the road. |
