Show Pronounced Weakness Marks Course of Stock Dealings Early Gains Lost at Close and Generally Upset Conditions Prevail; Speculative Element Confused. . NKTT YORK. Sept. 11. The course of. the slock market was sever ned largely to-lay by the pronounced weaknpss of a I comparatively small group of speialt ies a nd low -priced railroad shares. S-pecu- ; lative sentiment appeared to be confused and in the absence of new factors of material ma-terial influence the operations disclosed no well -deveioped initiative. The uncovering uncov-ering on a comparatively small amount of selling of a few soft spots accordingly was sufficient to impress the whole market mar-ket and it eased off gradually. Total sales were 455.000 shares. At t he outset a cheerful tone prevailed and there were appearances of short covering. cov-ering. This tendency disappeared, how-, how-, ever, when it became apparent that the i demand was light and the market was i sensitive to pressure. Early gains, amounting to a point or more in the cases of various representative issues, were. lost, and in the afternoon a genera! downward trend developed. The motor and motor accessories stocks were especially heavy. General Motors was sold steadily and lost more than 7 Century Printing Co., Salt Lake's I printers, 231-35 Edison street. Pullman continued its decline and marked weakness appeared in Sears-Roebuck and Agricultural Chemical. In the railroad list the weak point was again New Haven, which slumped 3 polnls to a new low record of 214. The drop in rubies continued today and under the influence of the disturbed political po-litical situation in Russia and the complete com-plete ahsence of demand the shanest break of the movement occurred. The rate fell 2 cents to a new low record at 134- On the curb Russian 64 per cent bonds broke 3 points to a new low at 75 and fhe 54s fell 3 to 6 points. Somewhat easier conditions prevailed In tlie money market. Call money did not rise above 5 per cent and time funds were loaned at 54 for ail dates. Bonds were heavy. Total sales, par value. $3,S5O.00O. Liberty bonds were easier, selling from 99.96 down to 99. S6. United States bonds were unchanged on call. Prepare for Winter!
