He did nnL conclude and tomorrow will complete his stat ement, previously iiven to Die hocse ways and means committee. The senate committee hopes to complete the bill tomorrow and report it Thursday to the sena'le, where it will be piven the ri.uht of way over all other legislation. Secretary MeAdoo was closely questioned ques-tioned by committee members, but it was said no serious opposition developed. It is believed the bill can be passed after minor committee changes are made with comparatively brief debate. Secretary MeAdoo said that all of the S-I.huO.OiiO.OOO new bonds proposed in the bill for loans to the allies probably would nut be neederl, but that it was desired to make the amount ample to meet any emergency. The new maximum Interest rate of i ner cent authorized in the bill for the new bonds appeared to meet with general approval, ap-proval, but some committeemen expressed doubt of the wisdom of the convertibility proposal and also of the taxation authorized. |
