Show BOTH ROUSES TO CONFER ON WAR TAXI j Differences to Exist at Outset Out-set Between Senate and House Conferees. WASHINGTON, Sept. 11. Three outstanding out-standing points of difference will exist between senate and house conferees on the war tax bill when they begin their work, probably tomorrow. They are on ; the Income, excess profits and second-class second-class mail matter sections. Democratic Leader Kitchin announced tonight that he would ask unanimous consent tomorrow to send the bill to conference, con-ference, and none of the Republican members mem-bers indicated that they would object. The senate already has named Its conferees. con-ferees. Confidence is universally expressed that an agreement soon will be reached on the measure, despite the wide differences on the three sections. House members are pleased with many changes made by the senate. Some house members say the senate Income In-come tax sections provision for collecting information instead of taxes-at the source gives corporations an opportunity to escape es-cape taxation and shift It to the people who supply their funds. They also oppose the senate plan for excess profits tax assessments. as-sessments. A compromise on the second-class mall rates Is expected by tho house leaders. The senate eliminated entirely the house proposal to raise the rates enormously. |
