Show CARPENTIER ALREADY SIGNED FOR MATCH By International News Service. CHICAGO, Dec. 5. Georges Carpentier already has been signed to fight Jess Willard or any white man in America in New York City some time this winter or next spring1. His release for a three months' furlough has been arranged from the French government for $25,000, with the additional proviso that 10 per cent of the gross receipts go to the French Red Cross fund. K The contract was not obtained by any y " promoter, but by a person interested in V the swelling of the Red Cross fund. The promoter who gets the matcn will have to do business with this outside party. This much is known and definitely settled. set-tled. Agents of the party who got the contract with the French government for Carpen tier's services have put the matter mat-ter up to six New York promoters, all of them hot on the trail. Carpentier on Way. Carpentier is waiting word that his op-, ponent has been signed, when he will sail for New York. Willard, to date, has not been signed, it was learned here tonight. Carpentier has left the fighting front in France. It is understood that the furlough fur-lough will be extended to mean three months after he sails from France In order to give him plenty of time to prepare for the fight. The contract to which Carpentier Is signed has a clause that the French champion cham-pion will fight any white man selected by the promoter who puts on the match. This means that he does not necessarily have to fight Willard. But the promoters of the fight want Willard and nobodv else. The party who Instigated the fight does not expect one penny as a personal profit, asks only that 10 per cent of the rtoss receipts from the fight be turned over to the French Red Cross fund and also requires re-quires the promoter who gets the match to pay the French government $25,000 and Carpentier $20,000 and expenses. It is Intended to conduct the match on charity ball lines, with patrons and pa- i , tronesses, tho boxes to go to the highest bidders. In case the men battle indoors, in JIarilson Square Garden or one of the big buildings in Gotham, financial experts estimate the fight will draw $300,000.
