Show BANK ROBBERS KILL INNOCENT BYSTANDER Bandits Secure $2000 In Successful Ari-I Ari-I zona Raid; Armed Posses Are Fol- lowing the Warm Trail. PHOENIX, Ariz., Dec. 5. Charles J Miner was instantly killed today when j four robbers, who had looted tho Buck-j eye Valley .bank at Buckeye, thirty-five! miles west of here, engaged in a street I battle with officials of the bank and citizens. The robbers made their escape on horses, split into pairs and are being hunted through the roughest hill section of Maricopa county by posses of deputy sheriffs and farmers. W. H. Watson; cashier, was the only man in the bank when the robbers entered en-tered the place. He was forced to hold up his hands while all the oose money amounting, it is said, to about $2000, was hastily gathered up. Running from the bank, the robbers leaped into an automobile and engaged in a struggle with the driver. Watson, who seized a rifle as they left, refrained from firing in the fear he would shoot the driver of the machine. The bandits then opened fire upon a crowd of citizens which had gathered, and, firing as they ran, reached a clump of bushes, where their horses were tethered and escaped. Miner, a baker, fell at the first volley fired by the robbers. |
