Show TROY AND BUTCH SCHMIDT PARENTS OF YEAR At the final awards and recognition night program for the 1977 summer season for students and parents of the Val Verda Swim School, trophies were awarded to Sandy Cross for "Greatest Mastery of a Fear Problem," Corey Hiatt, "Best Swimmer of the Year; Flora Ford, "Greatest Skill Level Advancement" Advan-cement" (from new beg. 1 to strokes, 3, passing the RC swimmer test); and to "Success "Suc-cess Stories of the Year" Merry Lynn Eriksson and Sean Macklyn. HONORABLE mention certificates cer-tificates went to Vance Vallace and Walt Johnson for their "Success Stories," and to Vance Vallace for "Advancement." "Advan-cement." "Best Swimmer" honorable mention went to Jeff Peterson. "Fastest Learner" of the season was Brett Palmer, followed by Pat Campbell. Attending the most lessons through the swim school's six sessions this summer were, Sean Macklyn, 1st place, who attended 50 lessons. Second and third went to Vance Vallace and his brother Kent Lee who attended 41 and 40 lessons respectively. FLORA Ford was present at 37 lessons for 4th place. "In that many lessons we can teach them something," says instructor Mary Landen "and we did!" she continued. Butch and Troy Schmidt were presented with the "Parents of the Year" certificate cer-tificate for their support and for Butch's presentation of an artificial respiration demonstration demons-tration complete with "Resusci-Anne," and for Troy's taking a carload of ' kids to the Bubble Pool to try the mile swim, sitting out in the drizzle to count their laps. THERE were 160 youngsters young-sters from 94 families in the program, with most of them taking two or more sessions. The family with the most children in the program was the Blaine and Donna Hiatt family (TLC Preschool) with 5 children registered during the summer. Two families had four children in lessons simultaneously: simul-taneously: Monte and Becky Ford of Centerville, and Robert and Thera Norton, now moved to Farmington. Both families re-registered for at least a second session. SIXTY-five Red Cross beginning certificates were earned, as well as 48 advanced ad-vanced beginner, 23 intermediate in-termediate and nine swimmer (highest skill level ' most swimmers attain). In husband Bill enjoy the natural na-tural foods so she tries to use them in all her cooking. The couple lives at 290 South 100 East in Bountiful. MR. BRIMLEY is a systems sys-tems analyst for Control Data Corporation, employed in Salt Lake City. They both like to keep in good physical condition. Cindy attends a ballet class in the Davis University of Utah complex in Bountiful. Bill enjoys en-joys the karate class and is completing graduate work in mathematics. Both enjoy cross-country skiing, kj addition, there were 11 who passed the Red Cross "Basic Water Safety" course and 7 who passed the basic Red Cross lifesaving course. Five boys passed requirements for the Boy Scout Swimming merit badge, and two earned the Scout Mile swim award, and will receive these at their next Courts of Honor. There were two other students, not scouts, who also swam the mile non-stop for a special certificate. Mrs. Landen said this summer's involvement with the Val Verda Swim School was her most satisfying and enjoyable in over 23 years teaching swimming. |
