Show niley Sfoftern Ends Certification Studies Riley Stottern, golf course superintendent at the Oakridge Country Club, Farmington, Far-mington, recently completed the stringent certification requirements of his national professional organization, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA). STOTTERN, superintendent superinten-dent of the Farmington Course since 1967, was honored in a presentation at the Oakridge Country Club Red & Blue Tournament. Finley Wilkinson, club president made the formal presentation. To attain certification, Stottern was required to meet eligibility requirements of tenure and experience and then successfully complete a six-hour written examination. AREAS covered in the test include turf management, pesticide usage, business administration, ad-ministration, leadership, the game of golf and knowledge of GCSAA. A level of proven competence compe-tence achieved by few golf course superintendents in the United States, the certification certifica-tion program was initiated by GCSAA in 1971 to provide a means of verifying an individual's in-dividual's capabilities and qualifications on an objective basis. STOTTERN and his wife Barbara and three children reside in Bountiful. |
