Show DsunSifuI Braves G.In&h Berth In Quarter Finals By DAVE WIGHAM With only a couple of games left in Region One the Bountiful club has clinched a berth in the state quarterfinals. quarter-finals. It doesn't matter if the Braves dropped their last two games, Layton this week and Weber next week, they would still go directly to the elite field of eight without a playoff. CONTRARY to a report in a Salt Lake City paper on Sunday the Braves are the first club to cinch a tournament tour-nament spot. You see the top two teams from this league go directly to the quarterfinals and even if the Braves lost their last two contests they would finish with a 5-2 record. That would place them in a tie with either Clearfield or Roy, providing both those clubs win their two remaining games. Bountiful would go as second place since they beat both of those clubs. Layton, needed the win yesterday to stay alive for the other automatic spot. If the Lancers lost, then they would be in a tie with Roy, providing the Royal won, and if that be the case the Royals would go because they beat the Layton club a few weeks ago. AS IT looks now the Braves will be one of the automatic clubs to go, with either Roy or Layton given best shots at the other spot. Clearfield could tie these two if the right comBinations came up, but keep in mind the Falcons lost to Layton and have yet to face Roy. In any event the Royals and Lancers have the best shots at two of the remaining three spots for post season play with the final spot being a fight with three clubs still in the race. Clearfield and Bonneville, which met this past week, having the inside track with the Viewmont club still in the picture. The Vikes would have to win their two remaining games but if they did they would be in post season play. IF YOU can figure out what you just read then you're one step ahead of me. In Region Four things are a little simpler than that. Davis looks like it's going to go through the league with a perfect mark and send them to the state tournament to defend their title. OGDEN AND Box Elder are right in line for the other spot and since the two are tied going into their battle this week the winner will likely join the Darts at the tourney. Keep in mind that the region games are played on Thursday this week so by the time some of you read this article you'll already know what happened. |
