'V ' 1 "' 1 ; f I I (Si?r r - .. . . j i HONOR SYMPHONY ; Students at Millcreek Junior High made posters to honor members of the Utah Symphony Orchestra, r They were presented as the orchestra returned from its European tour. Winning posters were made Utah Symphony officials ; judged some 100 personalized : posters designed by seventh I and eighth grade art students at Millcreek Jr. High in ; Bountiful on Friday, Oct. 14 ; at 2:30 p.m. : THE posters were presented present-ed to individual members of the Utah Symphony upon their arrival at the Salt Lake City Airport on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. Maurice Abravanel and the Utah Symphony just completed a highly successful fourth International In-ternational tour. The special poster project has been under direction of the school's art teachers, Mr. ' Wixom and Miss Flannery. : WENDELL J. Ashton, ; Symphony president; Betty : L. Kay, Utah Symphony : public relations director; and : Robert Mickelsen, U of U arts : management intern, will - judge the students' posters : for originality and select . three winners. Prizes will be : awarded to the winning :; students. Each poster will be mounted mount-ed on four-foot sticks and given to faculty members at the airport to present to the musician as individual recognition recog-nition for the tour's success. The posters will be displayed in the windows of the Utah Symphony Office, 55 West 1st South, the following week. ALL students were invited to the airport to greet the symphony. Winning students joined the official welcoming committee at the airport. Maurice Abravanel and the Utah Symphony arrived in Salt Lake City after completing complet-ing a 19-concert, 30-day tour that took them through the countries of Greece, Austria, Germany and Spain. The orchestra returned home to present their Gala opening concert on Oct. 19 in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. by, 1 to r, Leslie Bringhurst, seventh grade, first place; Kelly Swift, 8th grade, third place; and Greg 1 Brown, seventh grade, second place. |
