The Bountiful to throw the ball He Lancers, but that might change this week. RUNNING backs for both clubs are excellent. Maurice Turner of the Lancers is probably the best of the bunch but the Braves Bill Wernli and Kyle McKay are a couple of excellent runners. The other back in the Lay-ton Lay-ton scheme of things is Todd Stapley who is a fine runner in his own right. The main difference in the running game thus far is that the Braves alternate plays with their backs, you don't know which one ef their backs will get the ball, while the Layton team seems to go to Turner a lot more than Stapley. IN THE receiving department depart-ment the Lancers have a great end in Rick Snow, he is faster than any of the Brave receivers, but the Braves mix up their passes with about four or five top receivers. Players like Scott Pendleton, Scott Irwin, Steve Toolson and McKay have all been on the receiving end of passes. In the trenches both clubs have some awesome folks with Layton going with the likes of Wade Gillespie, Chuck Ehin, Brandon Flint, Pat Shaw and Dave Anderson while the Braves boast Steve Rudd, Dean Layton, Scott Kinnear, Tony Smith and Ron Hammer. Both have good size and speed. THIS game also puts the two top defensive clubs in the region on the same field. Linebackers for the Lancers, Wyne Kittrell and Ron Atkinson Atkin-son and the Braves, Kent Palmer, Larry Hale and John . Hazen, are some of the best in the region. The defensive backs of the Lancers, Sam Gallegos, Rick Snow arid John Eccleston are faster than the Braves, but Bountiful's Kevin Waters, Paul Taylor and Jeff Anderson Ander-son are tough against the run. NO MATTER which way you look at this game the teams are very evenly matched. A break will decide the outcome of this bait game, as it has done in almost every Layton-Bountiful matchup. The Lancers can't afford the loss, it would almost take them out of second place, while the Braves could afford to lose and still go to state. But they want the region title. When these two teams meet, the word is pride, whichever team plays errorless ball, will come out on top. |
