Show dsa&lfiielM vs CBoiiii itqsuqODo By DAVE WIGHAM This week's Clearfield and Bonneville game pits two clubs who found out they really do have offenses last week. Both the Falcons and the Lakers have had problems putting points on the board but both clubs showed last week they have explosive of-' of-' fenses. GOING INTO their game last week the Falcons had put 52 points on their side of the score, then they exploded and put up 41 points in one game. The same was true with their opponents this week, the Bonneville club had only scored 25 points in their four previous league games, then against a strong Roy club they exploded for 31 points. The Falcons will have to contain the ace running back for the Lakers in Jerry Amidan who had by far his best day of the year last week including an 80-yard touchdown touch-down run in which he showed his speed by outrunning several Royals. His running mate is Mitch Godfrey who also had a good day last week. THESE TWO are a very effective ef-fective one-two punch for the Lakers. Their quarterback, Bart Hodges, a southpaw thrower mixed up the pass and the run very well last week. Defensively the Lakers have one of the best linebackers in the state in Danny Rich, who was literally all over the field last week in their win over Roy. Many of the coaches throughout the region indicate that Rich is probably the best backer in the region, and that's a compliment when you con- sider all the top players at that spot. " LYLE Munford is another linebacker for Bonneville who has got the eye of some of the coaches around the league for his fine play. So the Lakers have some top defensive people, the Lakers had held Bountiful to only one touchdown touch-down and Layton only one score, that coming in overtime. over-time. All year the Lakers have been tough on defense but have had problems putting put-ting points up but last week they showed they have that capability. Don't think that all Bonneville has to do is show up, far from it The Falcons will be favored in this one with the likes of Brian Johnson, John-son, Bob Berrera, Rodger Vincent and Mike Arrant leading the charge. ARRANT HAS come on very strong as a running back for the Brent Hancock coached team, he picked up well over 100 yards last week and is expected to duplicate that fete. Brian Johnson has been improving each week and could be the difference in this game, his mobility is improving which is good news for the Falcons but bad news , for the rest of the league. The Falcons' defense has been strong all year and now that their offense is gearing up they could prove to be the dark horse in the region. Many observers feel that it was just a matter of time until un-til the team caught on to Coach Hancock's system. Now that they have had a couple of months to work with it, the players are getting better at it every week. BOTH CLUBS need the win to stay alive with a hope for post season play. The Falcons home field rates them a slight favorite in this one. |
